There's been some speculation that Batman: Arkham Knight developer Rocksteady Studios will make a Justice League game next. If they do, long-time Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy says he's in.
He expressed enthusiasm for a Justice League game in a chat with IGN:
Oh yeah! Absolutely. I would love to do that. It's really hard to record games and very hard to create them, but the result is so rewarding that it makes it worthwhile at the end.
Conroy added that he hopes Rocksteady Studios' next game can continue the storyline from the Arkham trilogy. He acknowledges that it's going to be tough to pull that off, though:
It's such a great concept, of Batman fighting his way out of Arkham, the different battles he's gotten into in Arkham, I'd hate to think that is the end of that story. I understand it's the third part of the trilogy and it's the end of the arc, but I hope they can figure out some way to translate it into something else. I don't know how they could, though, because the end is so frightening.
The most recent hint at a Justice League game came from Arkham Knight's Batgirl DLC. Players can find Starro, a starfish-like alien, hidden away in the DLC's map. Starro is a long-time foe of the Justice League who can turn humans into mindless slaves. He seems like a good choice of villain for a Justice League game.
Rocksteady Studios also filled Arkham Knight with little Easter eggs that connect the game to the wider DC universe. For example, players can find references to Metropolis and LexCorp throughout the game. Lex Luthor even left a voicemail message for Bruce Wayne at this penthouse office.
What's more, Warner Bros. probably wants a Justice League video game really bad. Next March they'll be releasing Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a movie that will lay the groundwork for two Justice League films allegedly coming in 2017 and 2019. I'm sure that WB would love to have a Justice League video game franchise running alongside the films. The movies could feed off the games' publicity and vice versa.
Rocksteady hasn't revealed their post-Arkham Knight plans yet. They said from the start that Knight was the end of the Arkham series so we at least know they'll be embarking on a new franchise. I hope that this next project involves comic books in some way. There frankly aren't enough good comic book games out there. So many other superheroes deserve the Arkham treatment.
