There's A New Sonic The Hedgehog Game Coming, Get The Details
Sega and the Sonic Team are working on a brand new Sonic The Hedgehog game. They don't reveal what the game will be about or what sort of gameplay fans can expect, but there's a new game coming soon along with a major motion picture based on Sonic Boom.
Gamespot is reporting that Sonic fansite Soah City has translated an interview that Sonic Team's game director Takashi Iizuka had with Japanese gaming magazine, Famitsu. Iizuka explained that there's a new game and a new movie in the works and that they're working with Sony Pictures to bring the latter to fruition...
I'm curious what he means by "add something new" and the team's goal of overcoming "potential hardships"? What exact hardships are they talking about?
As far as adding something new to the table, the Sonic games have usually made it a habit of introducing some new mechanic here or there. In Sonic Colors they allowed gamers to use the Wisps to access all new powers for Sonic. In Sonic Unleashed gamers had the ability to turn into a werehog. No, I'm not joking. Sonic could literally turn into a werewolf hedgehog, which opened up new abilities and stages for players to journey through.
Games like Shadow The Hedgehog, which tapped into the series' more edgy emo side, offered gamers motorcycle oriented gameplay and a gun-wielding Shadow to play. It was definitely a different take on the Sonic franchise than many of the other games.
Sonic 2006 introduced physics-based gameplay, and Sonic Heroes allowed players to switch between playing three characters simultaneously. Sonic Generations was one of the more widely praised games that have come out in recent years given its mix of letting players take on classic Sonic stages from the original trilogy in 3D, while also giving gamers an opportunity to play many of the popular newer 3D stages in side-scrolling fashion.
The latest outing for Sonic was Sonic Boom for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. With Sonic Boom they added beat-'em-up elements to the game in addition to making it a traditional 3D platformer. The game was not very well received amongst critics or fans alike due to its shoddy gameplay design, buggy stages and poor controls.
