Something Strange Is Happening To Characters Inside Destiny, Get The Details
The upcoming Destiny: Rise of Iron expansion is prepping for release on September 20th. The new content will add a whole new experience for gamers, but before the content becomes available, it appears as if Bungie is doing something strange to the characters inside the game.
Game Informer is reporting that there were some odd effects being applied to some characters in Destiny. It wasn't just isolated to some players who encountered the effect and then tried convincing the world of it by going to Twitter and shouting at the max capacity of their Caps Lock abilities; no, not at all. Instead, this strange effect has been occurring in circles where people have seen actual evidence of it happening, such as Twitch live-streams.
The article pointed to a stream by Mr_Amplified where they noticed that a user named Owl Sector made a comment about the buff. Owl Sector also has a website attached to Bungie.net, so a lot of people are under the impression that Bungie is leading people on and trying to get the community hyped by partaking in the mystery.
Game Informer ascribes the buff to a previous buff called Splendor 2.6, which has appeared under different names in different variations, according to the article. The buff appears to boost both XP and reputation gains.
The really crazy part about it? Even after you log out of Destiny or change characters the reports are saying that the buff stays. Exiting the game and re-entering? The buff still stays. The mystery has led a lot of gamers to scratch their heads, others believe that it may be in relation to the Destiny: Rise of Iron expansion due for release on the Xbox One and PS4 on September 20th... a way to help some gamers who aren't maxed out in level to get higher before it launches.
Some of the users in the comment section have mentioned that the buff reminds them of the old Nightfall buff. They don't really go into detail about it, but they noted that the similarities are present.
Bungie has obviously said nothing about the buff and are likely gauging user feedback and seeing how the community responds as the hype swells for the release of Rise of Iron.

The upcoming expansion features all new weapons and armor, along with all new areas to visit as players attempt to rebuild the stature of the Iron Lords after they fell to the Plague. There will be new enemies to battle, as well as an all new raid to partake in. And with a new raid comes an all new raid boss. So far Bungie has been attempting to keep quiet in regards to the surprises within the raid, leaving gamers to team up with friends and discover all the secrets for themselves when the expansion launches.
I was never really into Destiny so it's hard for me to say what the buff means or what its significance is within the community. It's one of the few games that has proven to be a cure for insomnia. Nevertheless, if you're excited about the upcoming expansion and you've encountered the buff for yourself, feel free to share how you acquired it and where.
