Mega Man May Be Getting A New Legacy Collection
There appears to be some news indicating that Capcom might be releasing a new Mega Man Legacy Collection, following up on the release of the original collection they released back in 2015 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and later on in 2016 for the Nintendo 3DS.
According to Gematsu, they link to three different listings on the Game Classification Committee's website for Korean game ratings. The listings indicate that a Rockman Legacy Collection 2 is coming to South Korea. The listings are for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC version of the game. Of course, in the west, the game will likely be known as Mega Man Legacy Collection 2, just like the original Mega Man Collection, which came out a couple of years ago.
The listing notes that the rating was handed out last Friday on April 28th, 2017. So the launch of the collection could be coming as soon as the end of spring or as late as the end of summer. Back in 2015, the original Mega Man Legacy Collection launched in August for the home consoles and PC. So at this point, it's a matter of waiting for Capcom to officially announce when the collection will arrive, assuming it does in the west. Could it be at E3? Or would they do it sooner?
The collection will reportedly contain the Mega Man games between Mega Man 7 up to Mega Man 10. For the longest time, a lot of people used to think Mega Man X was actually Mega Man 10, just until Capcom officially made Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10 and proved that the original Rockman and X were two completely different characters.
The original collection contained the original Mega Man and followed the series up to Mega Man 6. Sadly the other spin-off games like the Mega Man X series and the Mega Man: The Power Battles co-op games running on the CPS1 arcade boards haven't been included in the collections... yet. I imagine Capcom may end up saving those for re-release later on after they finish off milking the first two sets of collections.
A lot of gamers have been asking for new entries or re-releases of the Mega Man Legends games, not to be confused with the Mega Man Legacy Collection series. The Legends games were the first third-person shooter renditions of the Blue Bomber, putting him in a somewhat role-playing atmosphere, which first kicked off on the PSX and N64. While gamers have been desperately asking for a new entry in the Mega Man Legends line of games, Capcom hasn't really put much focus on Mega Man in recent years.
They have, however, announced that Mega Man X will play a pretty big role in the upcoming Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite, due out this fall for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. And it looks like fans of the classic games will be able to play as the classic Blue Bomber when the second set of games in the Mega Man Legacy Collection is made available at some point for home consoles and PC. Unfortunately, there's no listing for the Nintendo Switch, but that could come later.
