Even though there have been criticisms and backlash over the way Friday The 13th: The Game has been handled by Illfonic and Gun Media, the developers are still intent on adding in new content, including a brand new playable Jason Voorhees who will be joining the game soon.

IGN picked up the news from a single-line news update over on the official Friday The 13th: The Game website, where Gun Media announced that a new version of a playable Jason would be made available. The site says nothing else in the update other than to check back for more information soon, and that more details would be coming.

IGN did offer a few more details about the update, combining a few other tidbits of information that Gun Media released in order to inform gamers that a new playable map was also incoming and that the map would be based directly on a location taken from one of the Friday The 13th movies.

The upcoming map that was "ripped straight from the films" will be free for all of those who own Friday The 13th: The Game. Availability is still to be determined, but it's not the only map coming. Gun Media also revealed that there are actually multiple maps in production at the moment, some of them being much smaller than the more large-scale maps present in the full game.

IGN details that some of the smaller maps will include Higgins, Packanack and Crystal Lake. So what's the benefit of having a smaller map? Well, the smaller maps allow you to play with fewer players, so you don't need to have eight players queued up in the lobby in order to get in a match.

Gun Media and Illfonic will also soon introduce two more camp counselors that players will be able to control. The tease puts forward the idea as to whether or not the camp counselors will be all new character, or if they'll be based on returning heroes from the Friday the 13th franchise. I wonder if they had plans on bringing back Lexa Doig's character from Jason X?

Speaking of Jason X... I wonder if that's what the new skin will be? Heck, there have been so many incarnations of him they could definitely just keep rolling out new skins and keeping gamers entertained.

However, the camp counselor updates won't just end with the two new counselors being introduced into Friday the 13th: The Game, Gun Media and Illfonic will also be introducing new camp counselor skins, including a summer swimwear pack for $4. The swimsuit DLC has always been a huge money maker for Koei Tecmo and the Dead or Alive games, so it's no shock that Gun Media would try its hand at the monetary tactic as well.

The developers will also be releasing a free emote pack as well.

I'm sure fans who were disgruntled with many of the setbacks, glitches and hiccups will enjoy the free content update. Many gamers are also still looking forward to the single-player campaign for Friday the 13th: The Game, which was announced back during the Kickstarter campaign a couple of years ago.
