Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes Update Adds Killer7 Cameo

Exactly seven days after the launch of Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes, a patch has been added to the game, including a new opening movie boasting an appearance from Dan Smith of Killer7 fame. I mean, director Suda51 has to be up to something, right?

If you have Travis Strikes Again on your Nintendo Switch, you can simply update the game and the new intro movie will play. Otherwise, the folks at Nintendo Insider were kind enough to post it online, if you’re just curious to see what happens. Having checked things out myself, it’s probably also worth noting that the Grasshopper Manufacture logo that follows the intro movie has gone from a white to green. That might not be important but, at this point, who knows?

In the original intro movie, we find out that an assassin by the name of Bad Man is on the hunt for Travis Touchdown, the world’s top killer. Travis killed Bad Girl in the second No More Heroes game, kicking off this quest for revenge. Long story short, the duo get into a tussle and eventually get sucked into a virtual reality video game machine. Yeah, it’s pretty weird.

In this new intro trailer that now plays before the original, we find out that Bad Man didn’t just stumble upon Travis at the start of the game. Instead, we learn that Killer7’s Dan Smith put him on the trail and also gave him the Death Ball (a video game) that triggers the game machine in the first place. What’s really cool about this cameo is not only that it adds yet another connection to a previous Suda51 game, but Smith is once again voiced by Michael Gough.

Killer7 originally launched for the Nintendo GameCube way back in 2005, only finally making its way to PC last year. While this could certainly just be an example of Suda51 having fun with his insane universe, there’s a possibility this is all pointing to something greater. There’s no telling if additional updates are planned for the core game and we know for a fact there’s some DLC coming, so maybe this isn’t the last we’ll see of Mr. Smith in Travis Strikes Again.

For me, this was a pitch-perfect addition to the Switch’s bizarre action romp. TSA already crosses over with the free-to-play Souls-like, Let it Die, and characters from Shadows of the Damned pop up in totally unexpected ways. It’s also worth mentioning that Travis has an extreme love from the main character in Hotline Miami, leading me to wonder if some sort of “killer collaboration” is brewing in the background.

That’s just speculation, though. For now, enjoy this blast from the past and, if you’re looking for an absolutely bonkers beat-em-up experience, Travis Strikes Again launched last week exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
