Gearbox Software released Borderlands 2 earlier this week but they're not resting. Studio head Randy Pitchford says that they're already "far along" with development of the first campaign DLC and they've got big plans for additional content.
The centerpiece of Borderlands 2's DLC are four campaign add-ons with new quests, enemies and weapons. Each will cost $9.99 to download. However, you can get them all at a discounted rate by purchasing the $30 Season Pass. These DLC packs will be released between now and June 2013.
The other DLC announced so far is a new character. The Mechromancer, slated to arrive in mid-October, is a redhead cyborg that commands a giant mech in battle. She will be free to download for pre-order customers. Everyone else will have to pay $10. She'll be the fifth playable character for the game. It's possible she won't be the last addition to the roster, though.
"We created the ability in Borderlands 2 to add additional characters because we want to use that ability," Pitchford said in a Kotaku Q&A. "The Mechromancer is the first one. I hope to do more. The success of the Mechromancer will help to define this. Our ambition and passion and our fans requests will also contribute to decision making about what we do."
Pitchford added that there's "active brainstorming" going on at Gearbox right now about new characters to add to the cast. He didn't provide any hints about these new additions, though. Oh man, I hope they make a Bard character.
Borderlands 2 launched in North America on September 18th. It's making its European debut today.
