Halo 4 Limited Edition Adds Multiplayer Maps, Specializations

Like any big release, Halo 4 will be available in a more expensive special edition. The Halo 4 Limited Edition is priced at $99.99 and provides gamers with several extras, including bonuses for multiplayer.

The LE will give players access to three map packs for Halo 4's War Games modes. Each map pack contains three maps, giving you nine maps for competitive multiplayer in total. Microsoft says they'll provide a more detailed schedule for the DLC at a later date.

Limited Edition owners will also unlock six Specializations on launch day. These Specializations, a part of the multiplayer's progression system, allow you to attain higher ranks and gain access to additional customization options. Players who don't buy the LE will have to wait for these Specializations to be gradually released.

Of course, you can't have a proper Collector's Edition without literature that players won't read. The Halo 4 LE will continue this proud tradition by offering a UNSC Infinity Briefing Packet. These packet contains a schematic of an armor customization, a blueprint of the Infinity, and further insight into - oh god, you don't even care, do you?

Additionally, the bundle features an extended version of Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, the previously announced live-action web series. The bonus content will provide additional backstory on the series and also give you a peek at its development.

Competing the package is a slew of digital extras:

  • Unique in-game Spartan-IV armor skin
  • Unique in-game weapon skin for the Assault Rifle
  • An exclusive in-game emblem
  • Xbox LIVE Avatar prop
  • Xbox LIVE Avatar Spartan-IV armor set

I wonder whether this is the only special edition Microsoft is planning. It's possible that they've got an even crazier bundle in the works. I mean, c'mon, there's gotta be someone willing to pay $150 for copy of the game embedded in a replica of Master Chief's boot.
