Heroes of the Storm has begun its Diablo-themed event Eternal Conflict today. Players can try out a new Hero and Battleground as soon as the server maintenance is complete.
The new Hero is the Butcher. He's a melee Assassin who can pick up meat off dead characters to boost his attack damage by 1% up to a maximum of 25%. However, he loses these bonuses after death.
The Butcher excels at chasing down enemies and slicing them apart. Hamstring lets him damage and slow his target. Butcher's Brand causes his attacks to temporarily heal him. He can also charge and stun an enemy with Ruthless Onslaught. His first Heroic ability is Lamb to the Slaughter, which lets him chain an enemy to a post for 4 seconds. His other Heroic is Furnace Blast, a powerful burst of fire that hits all nearby enemies.
Battlefield of Eternity is a two-lane Battleground with a dueling angel and demon at the center. Players can aid their team's immortal in the fight. If they kill the angel/demon's opponent, this powerful being will then help them in battle. The immortal will head to the nearest enemy Structures and try to tear them down.
To ensure that players see Battlefield of Eternity plenty of times during its launch, all modes will be temporarily limited to this rotation: Battlefield of Eternity, Sky Temple, Tomb of the Spider Queen and Cursed Hollow. If you want to play different maps, you'll have to make a Custom Game. The rotation will once again offer all maps on July 7th.
Blizzard also included one other Diablo-themed extra in today's patch: treasure goblins. Every day during the Eternal Conflict event, you'll see one of these goblins spawn near your team's Core. If you kill the goblin before the pregame timer runs out, you'll get 100 Gold at the end of the match.
Heroes of the Storm will be adding two other characters over the course of Eternal Conflict. The next to be introduced to the game is Leoric, a skeletal warrior that haunts enemies after death. The Monk is a melee support character that will debut later this summer.
