With THQ dissolved and Vigil Games closing the doors to the studio, there could be some hope for the former folks of the popular Darksiders series. Platinum Games' executive director Atsushi Inaba has commented about potentially picking up the license to the Darksiders IP, if they could grab it for cheap. I would certainly vote with an emphatic “Yes!” to that news.
Kotaku spotted and translated a tweet from the executive director, who recently took to Twitter to express some interest in the title, writing...
"In THQ studio and IP selling off auction, Darksiders is unsold? [We] wanna buy it...on the cheap,
Could this mean a few stable jobs for the recently let-go Vigil Studios crew? None of that is discussed, but I honestly could not think of a better studio to get hold of the Darksiders brand than Platinum Games. They honestly know their way around a hack and slash title, and combining that with a deep rooted RPG element could really open up some new doors in the genre.
Right now, Platinum Games is known as the go-to group for cheap, fast development turnovers with high-quality turnouts. I really, really hope that they can work something out and get their hands on the IP, as I'm sure many fans would hop on board to support the team.
You can learn more about which studios and games were sold off right here, as THQ has dissolved into nothing following a bankruptcy and acquisition from a capital investment firm.
