Quake Reboot Could Rekindle Cthulhu-Esque Story

Nothing is set in stone yet and id Software is still very hard at work on Doom 4 and RAGE, but some talks have been surfacing within the studio that Quake could do for a reboot and if so, don’t expect anymore attacks on Strogg strongholds, the series is going back to its Cthulhu-esque roots. Yeah, all those lovely big globby monsters in a sort of steampunk medieval setting...ah, the good 'ole days.

In an interview with EuroGamer, John Carmack explained that…

“We went from the Quake 2 and the Quake 4 Strogg universe. We are at least tossing around the possibilities of going back to the bizarre, mixed up Cthulhu-ish Quake 1 world and rebooting that direction," … "We think that would be a more interesting direction than doing more Strogg stuff after Quake 4. We certainly have strong factions internally that want to go do this."

But don’t get your hopes up for any concrete news to surface about the redo of Quake. Carmack makes it clear that their schedule is rife with projects that need to be completed in a timely fashion and Quake is not one of them. For now, you can chalk up a Quake reboot as watercooler talk around the offices of id Software.
