Smash Bros. Wii U Release Date Potentially Revealed

While most of the latest buzz surrounding upcoming Nintendo brawler, Super Smash Bros., revolves around the soon to be released 3DS version of the game, we finally have a scrap of news pertaining to the home console version of the game, namely a potential release date for the Wii U: Nov. 21.

If you aren't talking about Destiny these days, chances are pretty good that you're spending your time diving into post after post talking about Super Smash Bros. It's been quite a while since the last title in the series dropped and Nintendo has done a good job of slow-dripping information to the masses leading up to launch.

The 3DS version of the game is set to release Oct. 2, a tad later than the originally noted “summer 2014” window. No real word on the Wii U version of the game's release date has been mentioned; until now. As is becoming increasingly the case, Twitter has proven a good source of possible news leaks. As user BluesDriveBuster discovered courtesy of a pre-order card, it looks like Super Smash Bros. could be arriving on Nov. 21.

Since Nintendo hasn't said word one on the subject, that release date should be taken with a very large grain of salt for the time being. The picture Rogers posted looks legitimate enough, but it's amazing what kids can do with there fancy computer machines these days. If it holds true, though, that means that console gamers won't have much longer to wait in order to get even more brawling action on the Wii U, just shy of two months following the portable release. This could also help really boost up the appeal of the Wii U heading into the holiday season, as the last NPD results hinted at the Wii U having dipped below the 70k mark for August, and Nintendo really needs some huge, heavy-hitters for the fall to regain the momentum they had during the spring.

And speaking of that portable version of the game, Nintendo has been gearing up for the Oct. 2 launch, this week kicking off a demo program that gives everyone four ways to try out the game. Per our recent coverage, if you met certain requirements, Nintendo would have sent you a download code for the demo earlier this weekend. They would have sent your four codes, in fact, which is the second way you could have grabbed a demo: From a friend. Don't worry, though, because everyone will be able to download the 3DS demo off of the eShop starting Sept. 19. Finally, select stores will host demos of the game starting Sept. 18, just in case you're in the market to see is Smash Bros. is worth purchasing a 3DS for.

So, there you have it. The 3DS demo is rolling out and the game proper is due in just a couple of weeks. If the latest rumor holds true, then you may also be playing Smash Bros. on the Wii U in late November, just in time for the holiday season.

Until then, take a gander at the roster and get to imagining how amazing all of these fights are going to be.
