I Keep Replaying Hayden Panettiere's Advice About Self-Acceptance This Week: 'Beauty's An Opinion'

Fan were hit hard when it was announced that actress Hayden Panettiere died at age at just 36 years old. Since then Ice Princess has been trending, as well as her iconic roles in projects like Heroes, Nashville, and the Scream movies (the latter of which are streaming with a Paramount+ subscription). But her interviews have also resurfaced, and I keep watching one where she talks about beauty and self-acceptance. Let's break it all down.

Ever since her passing, folks have been reminiscing about the late actor's acting legacy, as well as how Hollywood treated Panettiere. But tales about her talents and spirit are also trickling out, and People recently posted a clip from back in 2009 where Hayden spoke about self-acceptance. In her words:

I heard a saying once that really helped me. It was 'beauty's an opinion, not a fact.' And just to keep that in mind always helped me. And personally, I think the most beautiful things about people are their flaws. Isn't it a Natasha Bedingfield song 'A face without freckles is like a sky without the stars'?

Mic drop. This advice is something that many of us can take to heart, but its especially powerful when you think about how challenging it must have been for the late actress to grow up in the public eye. Hayden Panettiere was a child actress in projects like Remember the Titans, before eventually growing up and booking iconic work as a teen and young adult. She had to see herself on camera during that time, and found a way to not be so critical of herself.

Whether it was Panettiere's break from Hollywood post-Nashville or her her advocacy work for dolphins, it's clear that the Heroes star made her own rules. And her comments about confidence is something that many of us could stand to remember. In the same interview she went on to say:

Just the way you carry yourself. It is so much more appealing. Somebody who carries themselves confidently. You go 'You know what? That is so much more beautiful.' Because you can tell that they're okay with who they are. And we all have our flaws and the things we're insecure about. In the whole scheme of things it really doesn't amount to much.

Growing up as a celebrity is no doubt complicated, and these 2009 comments seem to hint at how she was able to do so as a public figure. The Scream actress had struggles like all of us do, but I have to assume that these comments will be heartening for fans in the wake of her tragic death. You can see Hayden Panettiere's give this bit of advice for yourself below:

As previously mentioned, Panettiere took a break from Hollywood for years after Nashville ended. But she returned in Scream VI as Kirby Reed after an easter egg revealed that her character survived the fourth movie. Fans like me were thrilled to see her back in the beloved horror franchise, and she filmed a variety of other projects before her sudden passing.

Our thoughts are with Hayden Panettiere's loved ones during this difficult time. And like many, I plan on re-watching Heroes and her Scream movies in a way of honoring her immense talents.
