3 New Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 Characters May Have Been Revealed

When it comes to superhero movies, studios like Marvel and DC do everything in their power to keep up the veil of secrecy and prevent news and spoilers from leaking out to the movie going public. Still, despite their best efforts, some information always comes out and rumors hit on a regular basis. Some of them turn out to be true, while other are complete nonsense, but a new one about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is making the rounds, and if true, we may now the identity of three new additions to Marvel’s upcoming deep space adventure.

Heads up, this is just a rumor at this point, so treat it as such.

We’ve known that Elizabeth Debicki (The Man From U.N.C.L.E.), Tommy Flanagan (Gladiator), and Chris Sullivan (The Knick), among others (including Kurt Russell) will join the cast of director James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. What we haven’t heard up to this point is who any of the three will play, though according to Comic Book Movie’s source, that has changed—at least for those first three, there’s still no word on Russell’s role, though some speculate he’s playing Star-Lord’s (Chris Pratt) father, which would be awesome.

Of the three, the one that may ring the most bells for comic book fans is Elizabeth Debicki’s character, as she will reportedly play Ayesha. Also going by the name Paragon, Ayesha has been around and has ties to a number of other Marvel properties. She is linked to Adam Warlock, as they were both created by the same genetic experiments before absconding to outer space—some have also speculated that Adam Warlock could be Star-Lord’s dad. Doctor Strange also participated in her birth, so she’s linked to that upcoming film, and she even became Captain Marvel at one point. If this is true, she could fit quite nicely into the direction the MCU is heading beyond Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Though he was earlier reported to play one of Yondu’s (Michael Rooker) Ravagers, which his gruff exterior certainly fits, according to this rumor, Tommy Flanagan is playing Tullk, which the article presumes is Tullk Ul-Zyn, who has appeared a handful of times and is associated with Ronan the Accuser. This would make sense given Ronan’s role in Guardians of the Galaxy.

That leaves Chris Sullivan, who will reportedly play Taserface in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. A member of the primitive, warlike Stark race, born in the 31st Century, Taserface has tussled with the Guardians of the Galaxy on the pages of comics before. If this turns out to be true, it will be funny, because building up towards Guardians of the Galaxy a few years back, writer and director James Gunn talked about the villains and said, "I will say the odds of Taserface making an appearance are quite low." He certainly didn’t show up in the first film, though it sounds like perhaps Vol. 2 could have room for an appearance. Gunn has a distinct sense of humor, so perhaps this is a reaction to his earlier statement.

What do you think? Do you believe these rumors are true? Do you hope they are? Who would you like to see the gang tangle with in deep space? Let us know in the comments below. We have to do something to keep ourselves occupied until Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5, 2017.
