Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice To Begin Filming At LexCorp

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice has been a lively topic of coverage over the past couple of months, with all sorts of news and teases coming from the film's production team. We've seen Batman's outfit and vehicle from the film, we've seen photos of Gal Gadot on set as Diana Prince (Wonder Woman's plain clothes alter ego), and we've even seen a title change underlining the fact that yes – The Justice League is coming round the mountain, provided this next film kicks box office ass. But one thing that's kind of taken a back seat is that, believe it or not, this film actually started as a Superman sequel. Thankfully, a recent report indicates that Zack Snyder isn't as forgetful as the promotional team, and he is in fact filming scenes for the Superman portion of the film, specifically scenes with his arch nemesis – Lex Luthor.

Batman News (out of all places) revealed that tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday will be the days that Jessie Eisenberg's LexCorp will get to shine in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. The scenes are supposedly taking place in the fall, with Lex Luthor's corporation being described as a "Dot-com or Google type of workplace." You can kind of see why Jessie Eisenberg was picked for the role after reading the description of the corporate environment. Whether this belongs in a Superman movie or not is another story.

You may recall that LexCorp looked like this in Man of Steel:

LexCorp

Lex Luthor has always kind of been a modern day robber baron, always trying to grab up land and make some sort of power play that puts him ahead of the curve. I could see him being written as a defense contractor as well, considering this is how The Batman/Superman Movie: World's Finest connected him to Bruce Wayne. But for Luthor to run a "Google type of workplace" in Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice gives me pause, as it kind of takes the fangs out of the legendary baddie more than making him sleep with an old woman to inherit her fortune ever did. I guess with a strong tech company at his disposal, the new Lex Luthor could start running hit pieces and exposes to rival The Daily Planet's unbiased reporting. Hell, since The Daily Planet pretty much KNOWS Clark Kent is Superman, this information could leak out into the open, playing havoc with the man's social life. Maybe, just maybe this could be the way to explore a world where Superman exists in a fresh new perspective. After all, with the world's media and information networks being what they are today, how long would Clark Kent's identity truly remain secret?

In addition to these scenes being reported, a huge "military" sequence is being filmed as well. A huge sequence with armed personnel, and tons of extras running around and reacting? Now that sounds more like a Superman movie! All kidding aside, it'll be interesting to see what Jessie Eisenberg's Lex Luthor will bring to the new franchise table. Modernizing an iconic character, while almost always met with scrutiny, is key to keeping a franchise alive. Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice is a franchise that definitely needs to keep up with the times, as well as the competition, if they even hope to be a box office smash.

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice destroys the box office along with Captain America 3 on May 6th, 2016. Whoever wins, the world will be entertained.
