Zach Galifianakis is not nominated for an Oscar this year, but he might have won the Oscar season anyway. The second installment of his "Between Two Ferns: Oscar Buzz Edition" has dropped online, and it's just as uncomfortable as yesterday's first installment, this time with the likes of Jessica Chastain, Sally Field, Bradley Cooper and…. Daniel Day-Lewis? Wait, Daniel Day-Lewis took part in this? Well, see for yourself below.
You never know just how much these actors understand what they're in for, and for some reason I get the feeling that Sally Field wasn't all that familiar with "Between Two Ferns" before sitting down-- though I do admire her brave admission that she hates pennies. As for Bradley Cooper, though… that's pretty much exactly what you'd hope for when someone who knows Galifianakis that well steps up to "Between Two Ferns." The meltdown at the end is obviously brilliant, and a weirdly sly way to remind us how good Cooper is in Silver Linings Playbook, but everything that comes before it is great too. "I got your text about how bummed out you were that it was the start of Black History Month." "Why don't you join the Boy Scouts or something if you want to be part of something?"
All I ask is that Galifianakis travel back in time somehow to do these interviews with all the Oscar nominees of the past. Put Henry Fonda through the wringer? See what happens when Dustin Hoffman steps up to talk about Rain Man? Come on, you know every awards season would be better with this much bizarreness alongside it.
