Elle Fanning Looks Spooky In First Image From Francis Ford Coppola's Twixt

Despite all the rumors that Hollywood was cutting back on their presence at Comic Con, there will still be plenty of films represented at this year's Con that don't fit your typical definition of geek movies, like the Wizard of Oz animated retelling Dorothy of Oz, the movie starring John Cusack as Edgar Allan Poe, The Raven, and perhaps strangest of all, Francis Ford Coppola's new film Twixt. A drama inspired by the writings of Nathaniel Hawthrone and Edgar Allan Poe, it stars Val Kilmer as a horror writer who is drawn by ghostly visions to investigate the death of a young girl (Elle Fanning). It's Fanning, not Kilmer, who stars in the first image from the film, which Entertainment Weekly just posted as part of their massive Comic Con preview. Take a look below.

Of course, this won't be the first time Fanning has teamed up with a Coppola-- before she dazzled audiences with her turn in this summer's Super 8, she was the quiet, slightly gawky soul of Sofia Coppola's Somewhere, playing the adoring daughter of Stephen Dorff's movie star character. She's looking a lot different in Twixt, done up in old-timey clothes and some seriously bizarre hair and makeup, but even in this behind-the-scenes shot she's got that ephemeral, soulful quality that makes her such an appealing actress at just 13 years old.

Twixt will be the first panel in Hall H on Saturday, which will be a quiet day for movies at Comic Con overall, and we'll be on hand to cover that and everything else that goes down in San Diego. If the rest of what Coppola shows off is as intriguing as this behind-the-scenes shot, Twixt could be that tiny movie that walks away with the entire Con this year.
