Director Rob Marshall is in the midst of assembling one of the best ensemble casts we've seen in a long time for the upcoming adaptation of the fairy tale musical Into The Woods. In late April we learned that the director would be using the project to reteam with Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides star Johnny Depp as well as Meryl Streep, but in the past few weeks we've also learned that Tony Award -winning British actor James Corden and both Chris Pine and Jake Gyllenhall are attached to the project. But the casting process is likely far from over, and today the pic is wrangling to get yet another talented name to sign on the dotted line.
Emily Blunt, who most recently appeared alongside Colin Firth in the dramedy Arthur Newman, is now in final talks to join the cast of Into The Woods, according to Variety. Based on the 1987 Broadway musical by Stephen Sondheim, the movie centers on a childless baker and his wife who go on the hunt for a witch that put a curse on their family. During their trip they run into many of the most famous fairy tale characters of all time, including Rapunzel, Cinderella, and Little Red Riding Hood. The British actress will be playing the baker's wife, the female lead, in the movie.
While it seems that Blunt won't be featured any more on the big screen this year, she has a solid 2014 slate ahead. She's completed work on Doug Liman's sci-fi action film All You Need Is Kill, and is currently getting set to star in Your Voice In My Head with Stanley Tucci.
