With its early April release date, James Wan’s Furious 7 is doing its part to really stretch the definition of summer blockbuster - but watching any and all footage from the film is proof enough of exactly which cinematic season the new action film belongs. Need proof? Just check out the brand new Super Bowl spot below:
A beautiful sports car jumps from one skyscraper TO ANOTHER SKYSCRAPER. Clearly, no stunt is too insane for the Fast & Furious franchise, which continues to escalate its sequences from one amazing sequel to the next.
But it isn’t just action-pack stunts that drive this franchise. As the spot tells us right at the very beginning, the most important aspect of this universe has been – and will continue to be – family. And with Furious 7, everyone involved will be saying goodbye to a key member of their immediate family: Paul Walker. The actor is present in the opening salvos of this clip, and while his character says that he is going along for the ride, I’m guessing that Walker’s Brian will not be involved in the Abu Dhabi sections of the sequel.
Yet, the emphasis of this clip remains on ass kicking. "Daddy’s got to go to work," The Rock barks, and the trailer gets down to business, with cars skydiving out of a massive airplane, explosions, girl fights, newcomer Jason Statham firing off shotguns, and – as I mentioned – CARS JUMPING BETWEEN MASSIVE BUILDINGS!!
Following the events of Justin Lin’s Fast & Furious 6 - which saw Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and the rest of his gang put an end to the dangerous criminal Owen Shaw (Luke Evans) while in Europe - the new film finds the fast car-riding crew in a whole new mess of trouble. Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), Owen’s brother, has discovered what has happened to his sibling, and naturally wants extreme revenge for his loss. In addition to returning stars Paul Walker, Lucas Black, Michelle Rodriguez, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, and Ludacris, the new film also has a bevy of franchise newbies making their series debut, including Kurt Russell, Ronda Rousey, Djimon Hounsou, Iggy Azalea and Tony Jaa.
Furious 7 will be in theaters on April 3rd.
