First-Look Avengers Posters For Hawkeye, Black Widow, Iron Man And Captain America

Fans walking past the Marvel booth at San Diego Comic Con have been gushing over the latest posters by Ryan Meinerding and Charlie Wen, co-visual development supervisors for Marvel Studios. Just like last year, when booth representatives handed out illustrations by the two meant to promote Thor and Captain America, the duo created interlocking images coinciding with next year’s Avengers release.

Those poster images have now been released by Marvel.com. We have them below:

In an interview on the Marvel site, Meinerding and Wen divulge their professional experiences prior to joining Marvel, and how it helped them visualize the worlds needed to help bring characters like Thor, Captain America and Iron Man to life on screen. Meinerding worked with Jon Favreau on his failed adaptation of John Carter of Mars, and followed him to the world of Iron Man. Wen, meanwhile, came to Marvel with Thor but also contributed heavily to the design of Joe Johnston’s Captain America: The First Avenger. The two go into extensive detail about costuming decisions, CGI techniques, visual cues that will feed into Joss Whedon’s Avengers films, and much more.

If you are in San Diego, be sure to stop by the Marvel booth to grab a poster (while supplies last). Of the four, I’m most intrigued by Hawkeye, as this is the first clear look we are getting at his costume. It isn’t purple, sadly. Like the rest of the Marvel outfits, it’s far more functional than comical. I wonder why Thor got shafted? And where is Hulk? We all want to know how the big, green monster’s going to fit into the ensemble, yet even in the trailer, we only get quick shots of a bespectacled Mark Ruffalo. The mystery continues.

And if you aren’t at the Con, take a moment to read the interview. It’s a great read, matching these fantastic posters meant to tease Avengers. Is it May 2012 yet?
