Guardians 2 Bringing Back This Key Side Character
In addition to the main players from Guardians of the Galaxy (Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Groot, and Rocket) returning for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, several key supporting players will also be coming back, like Nebula and Yondu. Now there’s another important character that will be returning for another round of intergalactic shenanigans. Don’t lie, you know you’ve been waiting to hear about whether this guy would be popping his head in or not. Well, it’s official: Kraglin is returning. C’mon, you know who I’m talking about!
After his brother, director James Gunn, teased it several months back, Sean Gunn recently appeared on The Nerdist to announce that he will reprise his role as Yondu’s second-in-command in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. As he put it:
Although he didn’t say nearly as much as his boss, Kraglin was often seen at Yondu’s side during Guardians of the Galaxy. In fact, he was one of the few Ravagers that stood out besides Yondu and former member Peter Quill. There’s an especially humorous scene when Yondu is talking gibberish over The Broker’s desperate pleas, and eventually Kraglin cracks up from his boss' antics. Presumably his role in the sequel will be the same: going on missions with his fellow Ravagers and doing whatever Yondu requires of him.
Gunn also mentioned that he will continue playing other minor characters in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 that the visual effects team will later create using him as a reference. He said:
No doubt he’ll continue to play the on set Rocket for the actors to interact with, and later Bradley Cooper will record his lines as the snarky raccoon…whoops, sorry, I shouldn’t have called him that. Fun fact: Gunn revealed that while playing Rocket in the first movie, he improvised one of the film’s funnier lines: "Here we are, a bunch of jackasses standing in a circle." Maybe he’ll be struck by inspiration again in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and deliver another memorable, unscripted quip.
Last week, James Gunn left for Atlanta, Georgia to begin the ten-month Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 production. The sequel will hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
