After what's seemed like endless delays, the Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton-starring Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is finally making its way to theaters early next year-- and despite the fairy tale origins, a red-band trailer is apparently the best way to get an idea of this R-rated action offering. A new one has debuted online, and you can take a look below-- with lots, lots of blood spatters, so fair warning.

It takes a weirdly long time for the trailer to get around to revealing the plot-- Gretel is kidnapped by a witch, while Hansel seems to team up with a different witch to hunt her down-- but there's at least some potential in there, and not just potential for covering the entire cast in both CGI and real blood. And Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters might actually be our best chance yet to see Jeremy Renner play the grouchy, badass action hero he was seemingly born to play-- it's a character type that earned him an Oscar nomination in The Hurt Locker, but his Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol character was outshone by Tom Cruise, Hawkeye spent too much of The Avengers as Loki-controlled zombie, and The Bourne Legacy's Aaron Cross was more sad and loss than truly sassy. Hansel & Gretel may not be much as a movie, but Renner seems to be making the most of it regardless.

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters will finally arrive in theaters January 25, with a newly added IMAX release and a spot slightly away from the doldrums of January-- which might be reason to put some faith in it. Let us know if you'll join the gore-fest in the comments below.
