Latest Iron Man 3 Poster Promises Heroes Will Fall

“Heroes” seems to be the defining term of Shane Black’s Iron Man 3, which will kick off the summer blockbuster season on the first weekend in May. The Mandarin proclaims in a disturbing voice-over from earlier trailers, “Heroes, there is no such thing.” And in the latest poster for the upcoming sequel, Marvel warns us that “Even Heroes Fall.”

The one-sheet was added to the Iron Man Facebook page. We have it for you right here:

We’ve seen this image already, mind you, when Marvel and Disney teased Tony Stark’s tumble ahead of the massive Super Bowl TV spot that continued to sell the sequel. Adding a tagline makes it “new,” particularly if we’re looking for a thematic thread to connect the marketing material we’ve been able to see so far. And now that we’ve soaked up that Super Bowl ad, we start to figure that Iron Man dropping from the sky could be part of the Air Force One crash … if he isn’t able to rescue those falling citizens before they hit the ground.

I’m not complaining too much. I mean, it’s a stark image (no pun intended), and suggests Stark is in a boatload of trouble. But if we were going to nitpick (because that’s what fanboys do), Iron Man took a deep plunge at the tail end of Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, and we know The Hulk isn’t going to be there to catch him as he falls this time. Black’s sequel will be in theaters on May 3. Is this a poster you’d want hanging on your wall?
