Michel Gondry's Documentary Gets Distribution

Though most moviegoers never see or even hear of their films, Oscilloscope is one of the most interesting distributors on the independent film side right now, having brought some of 2008's most fascinating, smallest films, like Wendy & Lucy and Dear Zachary. Now they're teaming up with one of the most interesting directors working today, Michel Gondry. The distributor has picked up Gondry's documentary The Thorn in the Heart, after the film premiered in Un Certain Regard at Cannes.

According to THR, the documentary is a personal one for Gondry. "The French- and English-language pic centers on schoolteacher Suzette Gondry, the director's aunt and matriarch of his family, and her relationship with her son."

Gondry is clearly hard at work now preparing the Seth Rogen Green Hornet movie, and it's nice to know that we'll have a taste of his more independent side in the meantime. Oscilloscope has yet to have a giant, Fox Searchlight-sized hit, but maybe with a name like Gondry on their team, this can be it.
