The Smosh Movie Trailer: How Long Can You Watch Before Clicking Away

The internet is full of challenges these days. So many that between being challenged to raise demons or pucker your lips like the latest reality starlet, they may as well start calling it Thunderdome. Well, we have a really whopper of a challenge for you. Check out the trailer for Smosh: The Movie and see how long you can last before clicking away. Good luck.

For those of you still here, Smosh posted the trailer for their first feature film effort, and we’re not going to lie… it’s pretty rough. Anthony Padilla and Ian Hicox play themselves in the film, because who else would they be playing really? Their quest is a simple one: Anthony has an embarrassing video on YouTube, and he wants to remove it. This leads our two heroes on a familiar sounding quest to travel throughout the internet to change the video from within the YouTube itself. Hijinks, YouTube celebrity cameos, and meme jokes ensue.

This isn’t like Dead Rising: Watchtower or Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser, where the distribution platform is merely an internet media outlet. This is a full fledged made by/for the internet movie, and it will more than likely live its life in such confines. If the Smosh lads thought they could pull an unofficial remake of the John Ritter/Pam Dawber cult classic Stay Tuned and get away with it, they were wrong. They were dead wrong.

Not only does Smosh: The Movie look like a questionable comedy concept, it looks to amplify all of the horrible things about the internet we know exist. Also, Smosh really isn’t all that funny. In fact, judging by the channel trailer, as well as the trailer for Smosh: The Movie, it looks like these guys are on par with the Friedberg/Seltzer team that keep making parodies that barely get the concept of a parody movie. Don’t believe us? Look below at their channel trailer.

There used to be life in the parody genre, with films like Airplane and even the Scary Movie franchise before it lost its way, as it understood the humor in genres that were overexposed. The sad reality is that the parody genre has become the demon it once sought to slay. It has been corrupted with cheap laughs and dated pop culture references. But hey, if you loved InAPPropriate Comedy and feel your demographic hasn’t been catered to enough in show business, your white knights have arrived, and their names are Anthony Padilla and Ian Hicox.

Smosh: The Movie does exist and it will be unleashed upon the world on July 24th via iTunes and Vimeo. May the gods have mercy on our species and Michael Ian Black; and don’t forget to log your challenge times in the comments below. Our First Prize winner gets a stern reprimand, and complimentary psychological counseling.
