Star Wars Launches Instagram Page With A Darth Vader Selfie

And post a selfie.

Did you just survive a shootout in a tight corridor on the Death Star? Share that victory, Jedi! I love the background of this shot. So funny. I can’t think of the last time anything associated with Star Wars had a culture-savvy sense of humor. Maybe the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special, with guest stars Bea Arthur, Art Carney, Harvey Korman and Jefferson Starship!! It’s difficult to find a copy of the special with working audio (due to copyright issues), but this video pretty much sums up the Holiday Special … and the effect it had on people like Harrison Ford:

So Star Wars fans, you need to start following the production on its official Instagram page. On the same day, the page shared this behind-the-scenes "lightsaber" battle pic:

And this vintage pic of Colin Cantwell's Star Destroyer concept model for Episode IV: A New Hope.

Which means that, so far, the account is a nice mixture of the franchise’s legacy, and its place in a modern movie landscape. A good first step for J.J. Abrams and his team as they prepare to relaunch a massive series after a long break (and the imbalanced "Prequel Trilogy"). The Instagram posting follows up the R2-D2 picture that Bad Robot shared on its Twitter feed – more usage of social media. Smart.

Basically, if you want to follow every step of Abrams’ journey, you need to be plugged in to Episode VII’s various outlets. Or (more important), bookmark our site, as we’ll bring you every little Star Wars detail as they are revealed. The next Star Wars is due in theaters on Dec. 18, 2015. Think you’ll see it?
