On November 6, one of Reese Witherspoon’s biggest hits, Sweet Home Alabama, is coming to Blu-ray for the first time. The comedy about a young woman who must confront her past to face her future is mostly a charming affair, but the following clips show Witherspoon’s character, Melanie Smooter, with more than a little spitfire. Touchstone sure knows how to pick ‘em.

The first clip, “Melanie and Jake Argue,” sets up Melanie’s less-than-grand return to the small Alabama town where she grew up. We are also introduced to Josh Lucas’ Jake, who is mostly laid back and likeable in the role, and provides what is probably the best line in the segment when he calls Melanie a “hoity toity Yankee bitch.” So, it’s not really a laid back or likeable comment, but if you haven’t seen the flick, you’ll just have to take my word for it.

The second clip, “Baby in a Bar” certainly features one of the most recognizable quotes from the film. After naming the title of the clip, I don’t even think I need to repeat the line, but I will say Melanie Lynskey is charming, even with an affected accent. Less charming is that one-shoulder top Witherspoon’s character is sporting. Thank goodness for continual fashion changes.

The November 6 release will be the first time the flick comes to Blu-ray, as well as the tenth anniversary release. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of new extras with the set, but if this is a movie you love and are missing in your collection, it shouldn’t prove a poor purchase.
