Teen Titans Team Up For A Movie
The next big superhero franchise will have to deal with super-powered, out of control… teen hormones. Warner Brothers is turning the Teen Titans into a movie, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The characters first appeared in comics in the 60s, conceived of as a sort of young Justice League. Original members included sidekicks of most of DC’s major superheroes including Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad, Wonder Girl, and Speedy the sidekicks of Batman, Flash, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Green Arrow. In recent years the team has gained more notoriety courtesy of the newish, popular cartoon series. The cartoon has added popular kid characters like Beast Boy, Cyborg, Starfire, and Raven while subtracting all the lame ones… namely everyone who isn’t Robin who has since renamed himself Nightwing.
Akiva Goldsman and Kerry Foster are producing it, and Mark Verheiden has been hired to write the script. It’s not known which Teen Titan characters they’ll use, old or new. It does seem certain however, that Nightwing/Robin will be involved. He’s the marquee name after all.
The last thing we need is another superhero franchise, but since we’re getting anyway at least this is something a little different than the standard single hero origin story we’ve seen several times over now. Whether or not this is any good I guess depends on how they handle it. Are they aiming for PG and pre-teen like Tim Allen’s horrible Zoom movie or are they shooting for something of more substance? It’s too early to tell.
