Thor's Tom Hiddleston Joining Eddie Redmayne In Spielberg's War Horse?

You don't know who Tom Hiddleston is yet, but given that the villain roles are always the fun ones in superhero movies, odds are you'll know him after seeing him as the trickster Loki in Thor next year. And even if that doesn't do the trick, Steven Spielberg is sidling up to the guy, so you know there must be something there. According to The Wrap, Spielberg has chosen Hiddleston to play one of the leads in War Horse, his adaptation of both the 1982 children's novel and the stage play that's based on it.

In addition, The Playlist is reporting that Eddie Redmayne-- a newly minted Tony winner for his run in Broadway's Red-- has been cast as the lead, a boy who enlists in the English army in World War I after his beloved horse is recruited by the military. It's unclear what role Hiddleston would play, since it seems that Redmayne's role would be the only major one, but assuming that Spielberg is casting him as a rising star I'd guess Hiddleston isn't just playing a bit part.

War Horse is already set for an August 10, 2011 release date, which makes it another one of those future potential blockbusters that's going to have to go into production very, very quickly. Don't ask why, but something tells me this Spielberg guy can handle the pressure.
