Transformers 3 To Be Called Transformers: The Dark Of The Moon

If you thought titles didn't get much worse than Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, brace yourself, because it looks like the third movie is going to be called something even more ludicrous. Collider confirmed today that the movie previously known only as Transformers 3, will bear the title Transformers: The Dark of the Moon. No, not The Dark Side of the Moon-- that would make too much sense. It's just The Dark of the Moon, and other than being a vague nod to the extraterrestrial origins of the Autobots and Decepticons, I have no idea what it could possibly mean.

Over the weekend the movie's producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura confirmed that there's still a month left to go on the film's Chicago production, and we also learned recently that that actual Space Shuttle Discovery will make a cameo in the movie. Does that mean a ton of it will be taking place in outer space? If so, how do they account for the seemingly endless path of destruction they've brought across Chicago?

If we've learned anything from Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman's seemingly miserable press tour for Transformers 2, in which they repeatedly stepped right up to the line of blaming Michael Bay for everything terrible about that movie, we should expect Transformers 3 writer Ehren Kruger to credit this title to Bay sometime next summer. It's still not worse than the wrecking-ball testicles in Revenge of the Fallen, so we can at least give him a little credit this time.
