This officially can be declared "The Year of Kevin Hart." He kicked 2014 off with the buddy-cop thriller Ride Along. He’s getting solid reviews for this weekend’s rom-com reboot About Last Night. And he’s getting the band back together for a summertime ensemble-comedy sequel Think Like a Man Too, which just dropped its first trailer on Sony’s YouTube page.
Did you see the original Think Like a Man? Directed by Tim Story, the 2012 relationship comedy pulled its idea from comedian and talk-show maven Steve Harvey’s best-selling book "Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man," which basically breaks down the battle of the sexes with humorous anecdotes. The movie recruited a high-powered cast – including Harvey, Gabrielle Union, Hart, Michael Ealy, Meagan Good, Regina Hall and Taraji P. Henson – to go through the he-said/she-said motions. Audiences responded in kind, as Think earned $96 million at the global box office.
Most everyone returns for the sequel, though the action shifts to Las Vegas, where the main players are staging a bachelor party. That concept, of course, is painfully unoriginal…
… but the cast of the Think sequel has us believing that they will be able to make something out of Harvey’s spot-on observational material. The books made a fortune, and Harvey has built an outstanding career with his radio and television programs. Not to mention the fact that he's one of the founding members of The Kings of Comedy. Harvey understands what is funny about everyday relationships, and I'm confident he'll wring laughs out of this sequel.
Knowing that they have a likely hit on their hands, Screen Gems is dropping Think Like a Man Too into the summer frame, releasing it on June 20. It will compete against Jersey Boys and The Purge: Anarchy. Which one will you see?
