New Wolverine Shots Show Hugh Jackman As Yukon Mountain Man

Twentieth Century Fox has been pretty tight lipped about details on the latest addition to their X-Men franchise, The Wolverine. A sequel to the critically loathed X-Men Origin – Wolverine, it's reportedly based on the four-issue mini-series Wolverine comic penned by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller. This arc takes Logan to Japan, where he trains with a samurai warrior, making the latest shots from the film's production a bit of a mystery.

Now filming in Australia, The Wolverine's star Hugh Jackman was spotted in costume as a grizzled Logan in a thick fur coat. Aussie news site Wollondilly Advertiser posted the below pics, which were taken in Picton, New South Whales. Excited locales gathered by the hundreds to spot Jackman, and reported that tree logs caked in fake snow, snow mobiles, shovels and a Canadian police car were all part of the set, making the location appear like part of Canada's Yukon territory.

When Jackman wasn't obliging fans with pictures, he was shooting a scene in which Logan exits an old hardware store and soon catches the notice of a pack of hunters who are packing their American pick-up truck with rifles and beer. Between these pics and his Les Mis look, Jackman could well launch a whole new trendy of grungy chic.

Christopher McQuarrie (The Tourist) and Mark Bomback (Unstoppable) adapted the screenplay of The Wolverine; Knight and Day helmer James Mangold directs. As for the cast, Jackman is joined by Will Yun Lee (Total Recall, and Hiroyuki Sanada (Rush Hour 3), Hal Yamanouchi ( The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou), and newcomers Tao Okamoto and Rila Fukushima.

The Wolverine is scheduled to hit theaters on July 26th, 2013. In the meantime, you can check out the film's first look, scope some more behind-the-scenes shots that show Jackman shirtless, and read more about the project in our Blend Film Database.
