Wonder Woman Added A Victoria's Secret Model To Its Cast, Here's Who She Is Playing

While the number of women cast in superhero movies has been at abysmally low (even though the films are only becoming more popular), one film is working to change that in a big way. Wonder Woman is a story that contains an entire island populated only by women. This means that there are many new opportunities for both accomplished and new actors to get involved. We now have confirmation of another Amazon woman who is part of the cast: Victoria Secret model Doutzen Kroes.

The confirmation comes courtesy of the cast themselves and Instagram. Wonder Woman is currently filming, and it appear that what’s being filmed are scenes that will take place on the Amazon island of Themyscira. Lead actress Gal Godot got a picture taken post meal with a few of her fellow Amazons and along with Connie Nielsen and boxer Ann Wolfe; Doutzen Kroes is at the table and being referred to as an Amazon sister. It’s not an entirely accurate statement. Connie Nielsen is playing Diana’s mother Queen Hippolyta.

Connie Nielsen also posted an image from the meal. This one also included Camilla Naprous, quite possibly the most important person for the family of Amazon women. She’s a professional horse trainer and responsible for keeping them all from killing themselves on horseback.

While this situation makes it clear that Doutzen Kroes will be playing an Amazon, we’re still in the dark as to which one. In addition to Diana and Hippolyta, we also know that Robin Wright will be playing General Antiope and Lisa Loven Kongsli will be taking the part of Menalippe. That’s about the extent of the Amazon characters that we have so far. Kroes' acting experience is minimal at this point, she's only done a couple of European films to date, so we don’t necessarily expect her role to be huge. Although it’s certainly possible that she wowed producers at an audition and picked up an important part.

Slowing but surely, Themyscira is building a solid population. We’ll finally be able to see all the powerful women who live there when Wonder Woman hits theaters in June of 2017.
