Subscribe To Why WALL-E 2 Won't Happen, According To Pixar Updates
Sometimes there's nothing better than getting to take another trip to the world of one of your favorite films when a sequel finally comes around. You get to see the cool characters again and catch up with them after their first adventure. Well, if you've been dying for a sequel to Disney Pixar's hit lonely robot film WALL-E you can officially get disappointed now, because it looks like that's a sequel that really won't happen. And now, thanks to Pixar president Jim Morris, we at least know why.
Aw, man. Seriously? Jim Morris spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the chances of various sequels coming down the pipeline for some of Pixar's best and most popular animated films. Unfortunately, it looks like WALL-E simply isn't a property that the studio is interested in revisiting. While that's surely bad news for big fans of the movie, honestly, that might be a good thing for the story in general. Getting a good sequel to a movie you love is great, but getting a sequel that ends up lessening the impact of the original film (or getting one that actually makes you wish the original hadn't even existed, because now the whole idea has had a horrifying mockery made of it) is just a total crap fest for any movie lover. If the filmmakers behind WALL-E feel like the story had a clear arc that was completed with that one movie, it's probably better for everyone if they don't try to squeeze any more cinematic juice out of it, because it would surely be stale.
The idea of letting a popular idea have it's moment and not trying to recreate it with sequels and prequels, reboots and spinoffs almost seems antiquated at this point. It's understandable that studios, stars and producers would want to capitalize on past success when possible, but there's something to be said for doing things the Pixar way and only heading back to ideas when there's a clear goal in mind for them. Jim Morris also mentioned that there are no current sequel ideas for Inside Out or Ratatouille, either, so it's unlikely that there will be follow ups to those films.
Well, I wish we could get another tale with WALL-E, but since that doesn't seem to be in the cards, I guess we'll all just have to settle for repeat viewings of the original.
It's unfortunate that a WALL-E sequel isn't happening. However, if you are looking to add the original to your dvd or blu-ray collection, you can check that out here.
