When Helen Mirren made it known that she wanted to become a part of the Fast and Furious franchise, it seemed like one of those dreams that'd never come true. But, somewhere out there a cinematic angel heard our prayers and granted our wish, bringing Dame Mirren into the fold for F. Gary Gray's Fast 8! While we don't know much about who she's playing, we do now know that she'll get some scene time with Vin Diesel's Dominic Toretto. You can see the proof for yourself in a new photo, included below.
The still comes from Vin Diesel's official Instagram, and even he can't help but be excited about the fact that he's working with Helen Mirren. The photo obscures Vin's face, as Dame Helen's face takes center stage, in a setting that looks like a restaurant of some sort. Perhaps this moment on display is a clandestine meeting between Dom and a new driver? Perhaps Helen Mirren is a new informant that's got some sort of information on Charlize Theron's new villain? Or, in a completely left field guess, maybe Mirren is being shown as a new villain that will be saved for a post-credits reveal that tells the audience she's the matriarch of the Shaw family, ready to exact some revenge on Dom and his family.
Any of those possibilities is valid, considering the details surrounding Helen Mirren's appearance in Fast 8 are being kept under wraps, much like most other details surrounding the film's production. Come to think of it, the only real big pieces of information we've gotten from the film have come from either Vin Diesel or Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. To think that out of all of the cast members who are in the Fast And Furious family, Diesel and Johnson are the biggest "Chatty Cathys" out of the bunch, kind of makes us laugh. But not in a mocking manner, lest we find ourselves on the business end of their powerful physiques.
At this phase of the game, we're now hotly anticipating a trailer for Fast 8, especially considering it may show us a more extensive look at just what Vin Diesel seems to be whispering into Helen Mirren's ear. If any of you out there want to give us your best guesses at what's going on in this conversation, leave us some fun material in the Comments below.
Fast 8 revs the engines and leaves the finish line on April 14, 2017. Though if you ask us, there wouldn't be any harm in pushing that release date up in order to deliver the ultimate Christmas present for 2016.
