How David Ayer Reacted To Suicide Squad’s Financial Success

Suicide Squad David Ayer

The worst heroes ever seem to have have had the best weekend ever -- at least financially. In the face of lukewarm reviews, Suicide Squad has managed to make a killing at the box office and the folks at Warner Bros. have clearly begun to celebrate. The immense success hasn't gone unnoticed, and Suicide Squad director David Ayer has officially taken to Twitter to address the DCEU's box office victory. This is what he had to say.

It's abundantly clear from this tweet that David Ayer seems pleased with the success of Suicide Squad. He expresses profound gratitude towards those who have helped the film succeed, and asserts that it's a film for fans that features "a good heart." Overall the tweet maintains a fairly civil tone, which likely stems from the fact that David Ayer actually had to recently apologize for vocally bashing Marvel movies at the Suicide Squad premiere. Someone at WB must be watching him like a hawk.

One of the biggest contributing factors to Suicide Squad's success has to be its willingness to embrace the notion of "fun" that Ayer refers to. The DCEU's first two films have more or less leaned heavily on grim, somber sensibilities, but David Ayer's supervillain team-up has gone in the opposite direction and taken a very offbeat approach to the DC mythos. Although it's still very early in the film's run, it appears that the gamble has paid off.

Of course, anyone who has kept up to date with the release of Suicide Squad knows what he means by "fun summer movie." The latest entry in the DCEU has met with a positive fan response, but it has not exactly won over many critics. Much like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad has seemingly split professionals and DC enthusiasts right down the middle -- with the former lambasting the film choppiness, while the latter has praised its tone and faithfulness to the source material.

As fans of the DCEU, we have to say that we're incredibly enthused and excited about the success of Suicide Squad at the box office. The Task Force X solo movie has gone on to set multiple financial records during its Thursday night screenings, and it has also become one of the best August openings of all time. In fact, the film has even managed to beat behemoth superhero movies like Guardians of the Galaxy and Deadpool in international markets. Not bad for a movie centering on mostly unknown characters from the DC lore.

In the face of insurmountable odds, it looks like Suicide Squad has gone on to become a bona fide success with mainstream audiences. We will keep you up to date with any and all pertinent details as more information becomes available to us. Suicide Squad is currently in theaters; make sure to check it out!
