Deadpool Fans Are Campaigning For An Oscar Award Winning Director To Replace Tim Miller

Many fans were disappointed to learn last week that Tim Miller, the director of Deadpool, had made the decision not to return to the sequel. However, some have decided to take the opportunity to attempt to recruit a fairly impressive replacement. A new petition has gone up on asking Ryan Reynolds to hire Quentin Tarantino for the gig.

Deadpool 2

On its face, this seems like a pretty unlikely scenario. Quentin Tarantino has exclusively directed movies that he has written himself, and Deadpool 2 already has the duo of Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese on board to write the sequel to their hit original film. However, if and when this petition, created by a fan on Change.org, actually reaches Ryan Reynolds, the fact is, all it will do is reinforce an idea that the actor already had. Back in 2009, when Deadpool was little more than a pipedream, Reynolds mentioned Tarantino as his personal "dream director" for the project.

As ideas go, it wouldn't be the craziest. Quentin Tarantino's films have a tendency to be hyper-violent with extremely vulgar language. It's unlikely that Deadpool 2 would have a problem with that, as the original was already plenty violent and vulgar. If the director of The Hateful Eight did jump on board he could add his own particular flavor to Deadpool's dialogue, which could be an utterly wonderful thing to hear.

For his part, Quentin Tarantino hasn't completely discounted the idea that he might direct a superhero movie. He once said he really wanted to direct a Luke Cage movie and as a comic book fan himself, one would think he would at least consider taking on the job if it was offered to him. The fact that Deadpool is one of the Marvel characters not being run directly by Marvel, and therefore Disney, is probably a good thing.

Of course, on the other hand, one would have to accept that a Quentin Tarantino directed Deadpool 2 would likely end up being a very different entity than the original film was. The director has a style that would surely be imprinted upon the material. While that might appear to be attractive, it might turn off as many fans of the first movie as it turns on others. Without Tim Miller at the helm, one expects that Deadpool 2 will be going through some significant changes one way or the other, perhaps a shift toward being even more Tarantino-esque than the original isn't a bad thing.

Do you think Quentin Tarantino is the perfect man to take over directing duties of Deadpool 2? If not, let us know who you would suggest in the comments below.
