Will James Gunn Bring Guardians Of The Galaxy's Ayesha Back? Here's What He Says

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Ayesha

Warning: spoilers ahead for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Read ahead at your own risk!

Judging by the insane box office numbers that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has managed to put up since its debut last week, it seems fair to assume that most of you have already seen it. With that in mind, you likely already know that James Gunn's hit sequel has handily become one of the most endearing Marvel movies in recent memory, and much of that has to do with the instantly memorable characters who enter the fray this time around. One of the film's most bizarre (and entertaining) characters is Elizabeth Debicki's Ayesha, and it sounds like James Gunn definitely plans to bring her back for a future film. The Guardians of the Galaxy director explained:

Absolutely. I absolutely plan on bringing Elizabeth Debicki back. She's actually one of my favorite actors I've ever worked with.

In a recent interview with IGN, James Gunn admitted that he has every intention of bringing Elizabeth Debicki back into the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise as Ayesha. Given the popularity of the character during her scenes in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, I think it's safe to say that fans of the series are about to get very excited. When compared to the (sometimes literally) more colorful characters in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Ayesha stood apart not only for her monochromatic gold exterior, but also for Debicki's perfect monotone delivery of her lines. She's an embodiment of everything we love about the endlessly weird Guardians universe, so it will be an enormous treat to see her again in another adventure.

Of course, it seems to make perfect sense that James Gunn intends to bring Ayesha back into the fold based upon how Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ended. She's directly responsible for the creation of Adam Warlock -- who will seemingly serve as a villain of sorts during the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 -- so she will obviously need to return to introduce the iconic Marvel character properly.

Adam Warlock Infinity Gauntlet Marvel Comics

Considering everything that we know about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we will have to wait and see whether or not Ayesha shows up even earlier than Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Adam Warlock is a central facet of the Infinity War arc in the comics, which has led many to assume that he may actually show up when the film adaptation of Infinity War debuts next year. James Gunn explicitly denies the presence of Adam Warlock in the highly anticipated Avengers movie, but if history has taught us anything, it's that Marvel insiders like to play these things close to the chest. If that's the case, then an Ayesha cameo even sooner than the third Guardians film doesn't necessarily seem off of the table.

Ayesha isn't the only new member of the Guardians of the Galaxy ensemble that James Gunn reportedly enjoyed working with. Vol. 2 introduces an entire army of new characters, and he admitted that Taserface and Mantis stood out as two of his favorites in the story. The odds of seeing Ayesha and Mantis again seem incredibly likely, but we will have to wait and see if Gunn finds a way to bring Taserface back.

James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is currently in theaters, and the story of these bizarre Marvel heroes will continue when The Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters next year on May 4, 2018.
