How Star Wars Plans To Answer Some Burning Questions About Captain Phasma

Captain Phasma in Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Star Wars: The Force Awakens introduced us to an entire cast of new and interesting characters, but one of the most underutilized was Captain Phasma. While a great deal was made of the female Stormtrooper in badass chrome armor, the character was a much smaller part of the story than had been implied previously. As such, we don't actually know all that much about who Phasma really is. Now, some questions about her are set to be answered, and we won't have to wait until Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Phasma is set to be the main character in both a limited run comic series, entitled Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi--- Captain Phasma, and a forthcoming novel. According, to Kelly Thompson, the writer of the comic book series, the comic will tell the story of how Phasma escaped the Starkiller base garbage chute, and follow her into the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

The most exciting thing to me about our miniseries is that we were given the awesome responsibility of bridging a gap between Force Awakens and Last Jedi --- of answering the question of what happened to Phasma after she went into that trash chute. Anytime you get to write official Star Wars is pretty incredible, but getting to decide what that link is, for a super intriguing character in some of the most epic movies of all time, is next level!

While the comic series will follow the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the novel, simply titled Phasma, will delve into the characters' backstory, giving us some much-needed detail about exactly who Phasma really is and where she came from.

It will be interesting to see exactly what the comic series ends up dealing with. While most Star Wars movies have significant time gaps between them, we know that Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be picking up immediately after the events of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This means the four issues of the comic will really only be able to deal with what Phasma was doing during the destruction of Starkiller base and the period where Rey went to find Luke Skywalker. Yahoo has a few pages from the book up if you want to get an idea how it will look.

Captain Phasma was one of the characters that were front and center in the early marketing for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. She was the first major female villain within the film series proper in a franchise that had been seriously hurting for female representation. However, when the film finally came out, Phasma wasn't nearly as prominent as we'd been led to believe. We've been told that we will see significantly more of the character in the remaining two films of the trilogy.

Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi--- Captain Phasma will begin its four-issue run in September. The novel Phasma, written by Delilah S. Dawson is set for release on September 1, giving you plenty of time to learn everything there is to know about Captain Phasma before Star Wars: The Last Jedi arrives in theaters December 15.
