Nicolas Cage is one of those actors who somehow seems to be endlessly entertaining, no matter what it is he's doing. Today he's sent the internet into absolute hysterics and all he's doing is posing for a picture. To be fair though, oh, what a picture it is. Nicolas Cage was in Kazakstan for a film festival over the weekend, you know, like you do, and posed for a picture with the first lady of the country. His wearing of the traditional robe and hat would be worthy of notice enough, but it's the look on his face which transforms this picture to a piece of true art. Check it out.
It's the same look that you get on your face when you show up to a costume party only when you get there you discover it's not really a costume party and you're the only one in costume, but you live too far away to go back and change so you just walk in and try to act like this what you wear to parties all the time.
Either somebody handed him this get up and told him to put it on for the picture or he assumed this was what everybody would be wearing and so he brought it along, only to discover that he was the only one. Either way you end up with a look on your face that says "how did I get here and exactly how do I get out of it?"
Of course, underneath the massive coat, you realize that Nic Cage is wearing a shirt and tie, and also, apparently, sneakers? Which would likely have made this picture worthy of note even without the expression.
Fun fact, the average temperature in Kazakstan in July is 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Not for nothing, but I'm going to guess that even when that outfit was the standard dress in the area, they probably didn't wear it much in July. Just an observation.
However, the strangest thing is that I can't really figure out why Nic Cage is in Kazakstan in the first place. There's a film festival going on, yes, but he's not in any of the films that are being screened, he doesn't appear to be on the jury judging the winners of the competition. He's just...there. One has to guess there was an appearance fee involved in getting him there, and a subsection of the contract probably required him to wear this outfit in one picture with the First Lady of the nation. We can probably title this look "the check is coming, you can get through it."
