With Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them 2 pushing forward with a November 2018 release date, it was only a matter of time before we were given the scoop on some new characters in the Wizarding World. And sure enough, we've gotten details on the first new villain in the sequel to last year's magical hit. As Grindelwald rises he'll need some new help in his evil empire, which includes his new henchman, Krall.
Described as "ambitious and sulky", this new baddie in Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them 2 is played by David Sakurai, who was last seen as a villain in Netflix's Iron Fist. But there's not much more about this character that we know from the preliminary details given. But seeing as Sakurai has a good amount of martial arts under his belt, especially when fighting against the Marvel hero he last squared off with, we might have an idea where he's going.
Krall's ambition is probably not going to merely be the type that shows in words, but also in action, as he'll be capable of beating the magic out of anyone who crosses his path. This probably means that Eddie Redmayne's Newt Scamander and his allies will need someone able to defend themselves against his physical prowess in Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them 2. With that in mind, we wouldn't be surprised if a further announcement was made in which the side of good had a physical champion of their own.
This may come in the form of Grimmson, a bounty hunter set to be introduced in Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them 2. A character previously mentioned as being part of this sequel's cast, he's still not confirmed as either a hero or villain. This new bounty hunter character, cast with Ingvar Sigurdsson in the role, just might be the one to take Krall down, as he'll need to have some rough and tumble fighting skills to protect himself. But why would a bounty hunter be drawn into this installment of the Wizarding World's history? Well, he might be a vital piece to the film's ultimate story, surrounding the return of a very familiar evil.
Deadline also confirmed some previously specified details pertaining to the plot of Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them 2, as the story of this new sequel will surround the escape of Grindelwald. This leads to Albus Dumbledore being drafted for the recovery efforts, and Newt will be drawn into things, as Dumbledore trusts him implicitly. That, and he also faced Johnny Depp's evil wizard only a few short months prior to this sequel's timeframe. So with David Sakurai's Krall in play, someone like Grimmson could come in handy when it comes to protection.
Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them 2 is scheduled for a November 16, 2018 release. But the magic doesn't stop there, as you'll see when you view the entire 2018 schedule for yourself.
