A Bob's Burgers Movie Is Coming, Here's What We Know

Bob's Burgers Belcher Family

When it comes to animated TV dads, it is hard to think of someone with less luck than Bob Belcher. Overworked, underappreciated, and downright bad at business (despite making a mean burger), the guy seldom gets a solid win on any episode of Bob's Burgers. That said, the entire Belcher family just scored a huge victory, as 20th Century Fox has officially decided to move forward with a Bob's Burgers movie.

Twentieth Century Fox has officially announced a plan to develop an animated film based on its Emmy-winning series, Bob's Burgers. Set for release on July 17, 2020, Deadline notes the Bob's Burgers film will once again set its sights on Bob Belcher (voiced Archer star H. Jon Benjamin) as he tries (often unsuccessfully) to run a burger shop and provide for his family. The timing of the announcement arguably couldn't come at a better time, as the show just walked away with the Emmy for "Outstanding Animated Program," an award it earned once before in 2014.

Twentieth Century Fox is also wisely sticking with a formula that works as the project moves forward. Although some pretty significant details regarding the plot or direction of the film remain under wraps, we do know that series creator Loren Bouchard is playing a pivotal role in its development -- and wants to recapture everything that has made the series so beloved on TV.

With that in mind, let's just hope that a feature-length Bob's Burgers movie can go all in that same manic, awkward, and generally heartfelt humor that we have all come to know and love on the series.

As far as tone goes, 20th Century Fox CEO Stacey Snider has stated that the studio has been pushing to do more with its animated and family-oriented properties, and the Bob's Burgers movie fits right in that niche. The show will follow other animated Fox properties-- think The Simpsons--that have already gotten the movie treatment.

We still have several years until the Belcher family finally makes its way to the silver screen, but we will bring you more information related to the Bob's Burgers movie as the project moves through development. Until then, check out our 2017 movie premiere guide to keep yourself in the loop on everything set to debut before the end of the year, and make sure to watch Bob's Burgers (which has kicked off its fall season) on Sunday nights at 7:30 p.m. ET on FOX.
