Mark Wahlberg's Mile 22 Trailer Is Action-Packed And Explosive

The next collaboration between Mark Wahlberg and director Peter Berg looks to take the action and drama of their previous films and amp everything up in a big way. The first trailer for Mile 22 is here and it is full of explosive action that is sure to get the audiences' blood pumping. Check it out.

Mile 22 sees Mark Wahlberg leading a team of elite fighters who work for an organization known as Overwatch. In addition to Wahlberg, the team includes Ronda Rousey and The Walking Dead's Lauren Cohan among others. The trailer informs us that Overwatch exists as a "third option" when neither standard military nor diplomatic options will work. This third option appears to involve a lot of very large guns. Overwatch is supposed to be part of the CIA according to the Mile 22 marketing material, but it's one of those parts of the CIA that the U.S. government doesn't admit actually exists.

The plot of Mile 22 sees radioactive material go missing and the Overwatch team tasked with getting the guy who knows where it is out of an unnamed Southeast Asian nation in exchange for the information. Of course, the people who don't want him talking are going to go to whatever lengths are necessary to keep him quiet, which leads to the bulk of the movie appearing to be a caravan of our heroes attempting to make it to the airfield, found 22 miles away, to escape while lots of other people try to kill them.

Mile 22 marks the fourth collaboration between director Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg, who previously worked on Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon, and Patriot's Day. One thing those previous three films had in common was that they were based on actual events, but Mile 22 is an entirely fictional story, and it's clear that has given the filmmakers license to go a bit more action heavy, not that the other movies were ever really lacking in that department, but Mile 22 certainly comes across as more of an "action movie" than the previous films.

Not that I'm saying that's a bad thing. Mile 22 looks like a lot of fun. Mark Wahlberg has shown that he's a solid action actor and with co-stars like Ronda Rousey, who is fairly new to the movie business, but is certainly credible and capable when it comes to action, we can be sure we're going to get some great fight sequences. It's also nice to see Lauren Cohen get a major big-screen opportunity as the actress has built a decent fan base from her work on The Walking Dead.

We don't have too much longer to wait to see more of Mile 22. The film will hit theaters on August 3.
