When Sony's Silver And Black Movie Might Get Started

Silver and Black in the comics

Sony is currently working on building a series of movies about Spider-Man side characters, which may or may not involve Spider-Man. Venom is first up to bat and will be releasing in the fall. After that, well, it's a bit up in the air at the moment. It seems the original plan was to follow with Silver and Black, featuring two of Spider-Man's femme fatales, Silver Sable and Black Cat. However, the project was recently pulled from its release date, and now a new rumor says that it likely won't reach production until 2019.

According to Omega Underground, Silver and Black's production is unlikely to begin until 2019. The movie was originally given a release date of February 2019, but it was recently pulled from the schedule. Script rewrites are apparently the reason behind the delay. In the meantime, it's best to take this with some grain of salt, as Sony has yet to give an official timeframe of when people can expect to see Silver and Black, if at all.

Not much is known about Silver and Black, but Gina Prince-Bythewood is attached to direct. The film will follow mercenary Silver Sable and professional thief Black Cat. It's been rumored that the movie will include appearances from Spider-Man villains, but nothing has ever been confirmed.

The rumored delay is not terribly good news for Sony, and its attempt to get a shared cinematic universe off the ground. Outside of Venom, the studio has not made much progress on getting other projects in front of a camera. Sony is rumored to have a few different projects that are in the pipeline, such as movies about Morbius the Living Vampire and Nightwatch, but there hasn't been much news on them. That could just be Sony keeping its cards close to its chest in order to see how people react to Venom. Plenty of studios have thrown all their chips into the first movie of a planned cinematic universe, only for the whole thing to crumble upon impact. Sony might be trying to avoid that.

It was recently reported that Sony was developing a movie about Spider-Man ally Silk, so it's not like the studio is waiting around to nail Silver and Black before moving on to other projects. Again, a lot of Sony's plans likely hinge on Venom being successful, so we'll have to wait and see.

Silver and Black is a mystery but Venom is all set and ready to go. The film will release on October 5, 2018. To learn more about the movie, here's everything we know so far.
