First Men In Black International Trailer Is Nostalgic And Action-Packed

It's no secret that nostalgia is a massively popular trend in the film world. As such, studios are green-lighting plenty of projects that tug at those heart strings, bringing back beloved franchises for long awaited sequels and reboots. Sony is getting in on this trend, and bringing the Men In Black franchise back to theaters with a brand new cast.

The first trailer for Men In Black International has just arrived, and teases a super fun and action-packed adventure for the titular agency. You can check it out below.

Well, that's awesome. There's a ton of new and exciting aspects to Men In Black, while also providing classic nostalgic moments for the longtime fans of the franchise. Let's break down exactly what we're seeing.

The trailer opens by quickly setting up the trio of main characters in Men In Black International. Liam Neeson is the head of Men In Black's UK division, and is shown working alongside Chris Hemsworth's Agent H. While the timeline of this scene is unclear, the duo fade to black (pun intended) as the iconic Men In Black theme music begins playing in the background.

From there, we meet Tessa Thompson's Agent M, who may or may not have some supernatural powers. As she phases through a fence, she reveals she's been apparently searching for H for 20 years. The significance of their connection is left purposefully vague, but they soon become a pair of agents that work in tandem against galactic threats.

Of course, battling aliens is going to take some serious gear, and the first Men In Black International trailer shows off the awesome weaponry that M and H take up in order to do their jobs. The iconic Noisy Cricket gun makes a brief appearance, although mostly the pair use bigger guns. When a battle begins, H reveals that just about every surface of his car has weaponry in storage, so there should be plenty of pulse pounding action in the upcoming sequel.

The Men In Black International trailer also features Emma Thompson's Agent O, the head of the US division of MIB. Thompson is reprising the same role she played in Men In Black 3, helping to bridge the gap between the two franchises. She's shown giving M her orientation into the organization, and it seems that O has served as an inspiration for the new agent.

Emma Thompson isn't the only connection to the original Men In Black franchise, though. Early in the trailer we're shown two paintings of legendary MIB agents. Chris Hemsworth and Liam Neeson are featured in one portrait, while the other one shows Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones' characters from the first films. It's a subtle nod, but one that fans will appreciate. Additionally, there's The Worm Guys, the group of wise cracking aliens who became iconic through the franchise.

Men In Black International will arrive in theaters on June 14, 2019. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your trips to the movies in the New Year.
