New Lego Movie 2 Video Jabs Justice League For Leaving Out Green Lantern

Some superheroes get more respect than others, and longevity usually helps with this. Green Lantern has been part of the DC Comics mythology for decades, but unfortunately for him, Jonah Hill's version of the Emerald Knight is the black sheep of the Justice League, as we first saw in The Lego Movie. It's been five years since that story unfolded, and it doesn't look like Green Lantern's situation has improved at all, as evidenced by this new TV spot for The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.

Most of the below Lego Movie 2 preview (via Vital Thrills) hits the same beats as the earlier trailers, but there's a moment where Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash and Cyborg have assembled, possibly to help Batman and the other main protagonists in the sequel. Oh, and Green Lantern is there too, but evidently the other Justice Leaguers don't care one way or the other if he's around since they almost took off without him. That's despite the fact that he's literally the most illuminated of this superhero team; it's difficult to lose track of where he is.

But hey, that's just par for the course for Green Lantern in the Lego Movie-verse. In the first movie, Green Lantern desperately tried to be buddies with Superman, but the Man of Steel, voiced by Channing Tatum, wanted nothing to do with him, even after they and all those other Lego characters were captured by President Business. Green Lantern made out slightly better in The Lego Batman Movie since he was among the many heroes invited to Superman's party at the Fortress of Solitude, but even then he acknowledged that sometimes he doesn't get the Kryptonian's emails for years. Tatum and Hill's characters may have been a good pair in the Jump Street movies, but in the Lego movies, one is way more enthusiastic about the other, and it's not reciprocated.

Clearly Green Lantern will keep being the butt of jokes in The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, but that's not what this movie is focused on. Rather, the sequel will reunite us with Emmet Brickowski, Wyldstyle, Batman and the rest of the protagonists from The Lego Movie as they live in Apocalypseburg, the post-apocalyptic landscape previously known as Bricksburg until the Duplo invaded.

As if life wasn't already hard enough for them, they'll now have to deal with the Duplo joining forces with General Sweet Mayhem, an alien who kidnaps Wyldstyle for her master, the shapeshifting Queen Watevra Wa-Nabi. Emmet and his friends now have to travel into outer space to rescue Wyldstyle, and along the way they'll run into plenty of other new faces, like the badass Rex Dangervest.

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part assembles itself in theaters on February 8, so stay tuned to CinemaBlend for continuing coverage. Don't forget to also learn what else is opening this year in our 2019 release schedule.
