There's Evidence Bond 25 Is Bringing Back Blofeld After All

There may be little known about what to expect from Daniel Craig’s last hurrah as 007 in Bond 25, but this much is true -- it’s been a far from dull shoot. Between Craig suffering an ankle injury while shooting in Jamaica to an on-set explosion gone wrong -- and rumors upon rumors about drama between the cast, crew, and director Cary Fukunaga -- it seems like it’s always tea time. And it's time for another spill.

Christoph Waltz, who played the iconic Bond villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld in 2015’s Spectre, was apparently spotted on the set of Bond 25 at Pinewood Studios over in the UK. Daily Mail’s Baz Bamigboye reports that Waltz was shooting scenes over at the location, and when a visitor recognized him he insisted "you haven’t seen me."

Welp, looks like Christoph Waltz doesn’t have the Jedi mind trick powers he thinks he does, because this cat is already out of the bag: Blofeld may be back in the 2020 Bond! The end of Spectre did leave the potential for the Spectre leader to return and now perhaps he will. However, considering this proof is only based on one word of a visitor, we’ll have to tone down our excitement for now until more details are released.

Back in December, Cary Fukunaga shot down rumors about Blofeld and Q returning to the franchise since the script was still in development, but he did say if there was space for them in the story, he would “absolutely want them there." Ben Whishaw’s Q has since been named as part of the cast, along with Léa Seydoux’s Madeleine, Ralph Fiennes’ M, Naomie Harris’ Moneypenny, and Rory Kinnear’s Tanner. Why wouldn’t Blofeld join in as well?

Sometimes filmmakers fail to announce specific casting details in service of the story or in order to pull off good old-fashioned surprise twists (like Far From Home’s amazing surprise cameo). If so, the Bond 25 production is doing a shoddy job of it! Christoph Waltz simply saying “you haven’t seen me” is kind of a sad excuse for a line of defense. Maybe he should have gone with the cloaks the Captain Marvel cast had to often don on set.

Christoph Waltz has shown his interest in returning to his Bond role on the condition of Daniel Craig also reprising his famed role as well. Blofeld was kept alive and arrested in his last run-in with Bond and had a major role to play in the franchise’s bigger plot. The Playlist reported that he’ll return in a Silence of the Lambs type situation with Seydoux’s Madeleine visiting him in prison to get information from him about Bond 25’s main villain, played by Rami Malek.

Rami Malek’s character is rumored to have a plot involving genetic warfare, but does he have a connection to Blofeld as well? Bond 25 doesn’t hit theaters until April 2020, so find your nearest cat to pet as you wait.
