First introduced in DC Comics in 1962, Polka-Dot Man has spent most of his supervillain career as punchline – recognized as one of the sillier villains in Batman's famous rogues gallery – but the character's profile has now changed in a major way. Writer/director James Gunn reinvented the dot-flinging antagonist in his phenomenal blockbuster The Suicide Squad, the role played by David Dastmalchian, and he has emerged as a favorite among the members of the deep ensemble. As much as Dastmalchian's fan-base has grown since the release of the movie, however, it's only going to get bigger thanks to some of his most recent social media posts.

Posting on his personal Instagram page, David Dastmalchian has revealed an amazing story about how he adopted a stray cat he found while shooting The Suicide Squad on location in Panama. The pet – whom he has named Abner Bubblegum Polka Dot Cat (Bubblegum for short) – not only became a part of the actor's family via the production, but she even got his very own custom made costume. Check it out in the photo gallery below:

According to David Dastmalchian's caption, the special cat version of the Polka-Dot Man suit was made by Judianna Makovsky, who was the costume designer on The Suicide Squad – and it's a beautiful piece of work. Not only does it appear to be made from the exact same materials as the actual suit in the film, but those goggles and the belt are amazing. What's additionally impressive is that Bubblegum doesn't seem to mind wearing it at all.

Photos of David Dastmalchian's cat aren't the only ones inspiring "awws" on his social media, though. The actor also shared a shot from a day when his kids had the chance to visit the set during production and see their father dressed up as a supervillain/superhero:

Of course, David Dastmalchian's family should be accustomed to seeing him as a part of superhero movies at this point, as he has been making them for more than a decade now. In addition to his role as Polka-Dot Man in The Suicide Squad, DC fans will recall his memorable roles on the television series Gotham and in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight. He's also notably one of the few stars who is part of both the DC Extended Universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as he is part of the supporting ensemble in the Ant-Man and the Wasp movies.

If you haven't seen The Suicide Squad yet, and are just here for the cat photos, do yourself a favor and check it out, as it is not just one of the best blockbusters of the summer, but one of the best films of 2021 thus far. The film is currently playing in theaters, and is also now streaming on HBO Max.
