What better way to ring in your 20s than with a party thrown by none other than Taylor Swift? The "22" singer dialed the name of her hit song down a couple years to host the perfect 20th birthday party for her bestie Lorde on Monday night.
The two singers gathered with a group of friends to celebrate Lorde's birthday with a dinner party at ZZ's Clam Bar in New York City, reports E! News. Guests included a number of Lorde's childhood friends, along with some famous faces like Lena Dunham, Karlie Kloss, Aziz Ansari, and Mae Whitman. Both Taylor Swift and the birthday girl shared a bunch of fun photos from the party.
In one photo of Lorde getting some love from Taylor Swift and Karlie Kloss, the singer wrote about her appreciation for Swift's friendship. She writes that Swift has been like a mother to her over the past three years of their friendship.
And that love is very much reciprocated by Taylor Swift, who shared a photo of the birthday card that she painted for Lorde (real name Ella Yelich-O'Connor) and wrote her own heartwarming note about their friendship to go with it.
And after all that love, it was finally time for some cake! Lorde shared a video of Taylor Swift bringing out a chocolate frosted cake for her bestie while everyone at the table sane "Happy Birthday."
Amazing parties aside, this birthday was a really big deal for Lorde. A day earlier, the singer posted a lengthy note to her Facebook page discussing the monumental change that leaving her teenage years will have on her both personally and as a musician. After she broke big in 2012 with her smash single "Royals," many fans were expecting Lorde to put out pop records in the same quick succession as her young contemporaries like Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, or Demi Lovato. Instead, she remained pretty quiet after releasing her first and only album Pure Heroine in 2013.
In her Facebook note, Lorde addresses her step away from fame at that opportune time, saying that she chose to focus instead on herself and a new project that was developing. The note goes on to tease that she will be releasing her sophomore album soon, and that it will depart from the themes of her debut album, which she says was about "enshrining teenage glory."
