Thomas Markle feels left out at the moment. The father of Meghan Markle, the recently-dubbed Duchess of Sussex, he earned himself quite a bit of controversy and contention from the royal family when he was caught staging photos of himself to sell to the tabloids shortly before his daughter's high-profile Royal Wedding. It was announced soon after that Thomas Markle would not be attending the Windsor Castle ceremony, although it was reportedly due to his health and not related to this scandal, according to Meghan Markle. But in the months proceeding the much-watched ceremony, Thomas Markle reportedly still feels left out of the family, and he wants some acknowledgment from his in-laws. Evidently, tensions haven't been calmed much since the Royal Wedding, and Thomas Markle apparently isn't going to keep quiet until he gets what he believes is his fair due.
In a recent interview with TMZ, Thomas Markle claims that he is lashing out at the royal family because he simply wants to be involved in their lives.
I was silent for a full year and the press beat me up every day saying I was a hermit hiding in Mexico, so I gave my story. Apparently, that interview put the Royal Family in their silence mode ... so, I gave another interview to break the silence. All they have to do is speak to me.
It wasn't merely the photo scandal that got Thomas Markle in hot water with the royal family. In the months since the wedding, the eldest Markle has frequently put himself in front of the media circuit to speak about his feelings, notably how he felt when he had to watch his daughter walk down the aisle away from him, in a hospital bed several hundred miles away. In that interview, Markle said he made a "mistake" staging the infamous photos. He also claims the newlyweds were "very forgiving" about the matter, and that he still be invited to the Royal Wedding if he didn't have his heart condition at a bad time, which resulted from the stress of the situation, according to Thomas.
The royal family isn't pleased that Thomas Markle is speaking so openly and publicly about matters related to the royal family, and therefore he is earning more ill than goodwill by speaking out about it. But he believes the only way he'll be heard is if he keeps speaking out about the situation. Plus, he's choosing to look on the brighter side of things. According to Thomas, nothing would make him happier than to make his daughter happy.
Tomorrow is my birthday, 74 years old, and I'm enjoying the fact that I can make the entire Royal Family not speak and maybe I can get a laugh out of the Duchess.
Happy Birthday, Thomas Markle. We'll keep you posted if he gets his birthday wish.
